Day 2: Leaky roofs and mosh pits galore

Although the hearing in my right ear is almost completely gone due to the show at the Kathedral Thursday night, I decided to venture onwards on my quest to find some good music. So I travelled down to Dundas Square to check out a free concert. The Lady Hawks were performing and as much as I hate being critical…I was a bit bored. The singing was very good but the long drawn out guitar playing was a bit too much. .

After, I hopped on a street car and made my way to El Mocambo for the Redpipe presents Dine Alone Records show. The different genres and a good showcase of bands definitely made this show worth going to. The first band up was Songs From a Room, their sound is very clean and simple but the two vocalists gives their songs more rough and edge. What makes this band worth watching is the fact that the drummer is actually one of the vocalists.

Then the rain decided to make its way through the roof of the El Mocambo and through the ceiling, getting the amps and musicians wet. This problem MUST be solved. The last thing a musical festival needs is electrocuted musicians. A crew member comes on stage with a waste bucket in hand and places it under the source of the water. Problem solved.

Now that it’s safe for the artists to perform, Casey Baker and the Buffalo Sinners hit the stage. Although they are quite humorous (I did get quite a chuckle over the story about an old lady telling him he should try out for Canadian Idol because that’s a way he can get famous and signed to a label), I felt the band seemed out of place among the ready to mosh crowd. Let’s not forget to mention the likeness and sound to City and Colour.
